Apparently there is a thing called a blog hop, and I have been tagged in it, by the illustrious Elisa Nuckle. I’ve been given four questions to answer about my writing process, so here we go!
And bear with me, because I’m on my phone app and there’s only so much I can do
What am I working on?
I’m currently, because my computer is fried, working on editing by hand Changeling, my magnum opus. This will be round two of edits, then she’ll be doing her rounds of beta readers before the next round of edits. I’m also bringing together the climax of her sequel, Abomination, though that is more difficult now, as it too must be by hand. sigh.
How does my work differ from others from its genre?
Well, it’s unique in that it’s written by me!
ha ha
But in all seriousness, I’d be hard-pressed to brag about myself. It has all the things typical of fantasy, but I’ve made my own unique worlds and magical systems, with characters that I hope stay with you even after you’re finished reading.
Why do I write what I do?
These are the stories and the people curled up inside my head, who are comfortable lying dormant for only so long. Eventually they start banging and kicking their way out, and I might go mad if I don’t help them out. Besides, I love nothing more than to entertain, to tell a story and bring someone joy – or sorrow, if need be.
How does my writing process work?
I usually coop myself up, put on some music, and try to force it, but I believe my good friend Elisa once likened forcing writing to forcing a poop I’m a lady. Welcome. The best writing I manage is when it’s unexpected. When I’m trucking along and suddenly an idea strikes out of the blue. I don’t plot ahead of time, so these moments are precious to me. Otherwise, it usually happens that between nine and midnight, I get insane inspiration and can happily write 3000 words without stopping. At those times, I usually have to force myself to stop and go to bed, because I inevitably work in the morning.
That all being said, I do have this ongoing series here, about my thoughts on writing. It’s a little more in depth than all of this.
Unfortunately, because of my app, I’m so limited in what I can do. So, please forgive me, but I’m going to forego the tagging part of this segment, and just offer this to anyone who wants to do it. Say I tagged you, if you like. Writing this has been a battle and a half as it is
So thanks for the tag, Elisa! I hope this was enlightening for somebody.
Here, have some uncomfortable smile cookies. On the house.
