JP Marshman has been writing stories as long as she can remember, and such a little hobby has grown into a fervent passion. She primarily writes adventure and high fantasy, and dabbles in science fiction. She currently lives in the Okanagan Valley in beautiful British Columbia, where she ignores the crystal blue lakes and golden sunshine to instead stay indoors and grow paler so she can churn out fables with the heroes in her head. She also enjoys the company of video games, bad jokes, and cats.

I’m Jessica.

I write books – fantasy, high and epic (and sometimes urban). My three main muses are CHANGELING, a high fantasy adventure with dragons, magic, and gnarled wizards; OF THE ARBOUR, the story of a young man thrust unwillingly into the role of a hero; and PURITY, a contaminated romance between the unlikeliest of people.

I write about writing writeception, but I also post reviews on books I’ve read, have a long-running series about the adventures undertaken by my hair and her stylist, and might just ramble about nothing in particular. I’ve also begun dabbling in photography and cosplay.

  1. I just stumbled upon your blog rather haphazardly, and I like what I see! Your novels both sound very interesting and it seems like you are committed to seeing them though – something I struggle with when it comes to longer-length fiction.

      2. My friend stood on some rickety rotted thing when she took it. No tripod there, and certainly not twelve feet high. Star Wars is just great, period.

  5. yes – star wars has quite a bit to offer – have you ever read The Writer’s Journey by Christopher Vogler? if not, his books might stir your mind a little if you like writing… but sometimes we may not want our minds stirred..

    i still have to check out your writing – did you ever write a Haiku?

    rickety rotted thing – that could be something scary – hopefully it wasn’t a shape shifter…

      …was curious to see if you ever browsed through the book i mentioned: thewritersjourney(dot)com – reading through some of your creative writing, i thought you may find something valuable – i have no affiliation with Christopher Vogler, with the exception, that i think he has some valuable insight – just like Joseph Campbell – especially if you enjoy George Lucas’ inspiration – nuff said – promise not to mention it again 🙂 if you are interested may be you’ll tell me sometime 🙂

      I write Haiku to post, but everyone knows, you’d never own a copy of Scrivener just to write Haiku 🙂 and I can’t imagine any creative writer not using Scrivener to write fiction…

      1. I haven’t looked through it yet, no, but I’ll definitely keep it on my list of things to do.

        I suppose you could use Scrivener to keep all the poetry in the same place. It has its uses, like anything else. I’m not a huge fan of it myself; I much prefer MS Word, but Scrivener is apparently better for formatting ebooks, so I’m using it for the time being.

      2. sorry to be misleading, i do use Scrivener to write fiction, but manuscripts won’t be released until after i retire in the very near future from my day job – Haiku is just a hobby…

      9. i flunked getting you to re-follow me on twitter, i just wanted to be your oldest tweet follower 🙂 so i un-followed…… rather than be a pest… no problem i really don’t care much for twtr… i quit before with a few thousand followers, then started fresh to basically follow Scrivener App to be a beta tester for the iPad app… seems they had enough testers… and i have plenty to do elsewhere….

        oh, besides the great videos on Scrivener, they have a great forum – sorry you lost some of your work – and always look in the trash in each project – if i lived closer than 3000 miles i’d show you how to use Scrivener so it was completely invisible, like all programs should be…

    Hmm, as for the reference, I might be going totally out on a limb here. But it seems like the cart the poor cabbage merchant had from A:TLA. But the picture itself looks from Skyrim or something of that nature. I don’t know, maybe I’m wrong but that’s the first thing that came to mind. I love Avatar!!! :O

    1. I’d say family; Star Wars is just too good to be rivals over, haha. Yep! It’s the cabbage vendor reference, and when I saw it in Riverwood in Skyrim I about fell off my chair laughing.

        Oh no way!! That’s so sick. I haven’t had the chance to play Skyrim too much, but just from what I have played…homework, you better watch out! Haha poor guy, always losing his cabbages and stuff.

        Skyrim is just magical. Homework is not nearly as important, haha.

      3. Atton Rand sounds really familiar, I can’t quite put my finger on it…I guess I could just look it up eh? Haha, who doesn’t like Han?! I was actually surprised that he made a cameo/appearance in Deathtroopers… blew my mind.

        I’d have to say my favorite character in the EU would have to be Durge. Anyone that can stand toe to toe with Jedi is definitely a BA in my book! But from the movies, definitely Obi-Wan.

        Right? Who needs homework 😛

      4. Atton’s from Knights Of The Old Republic 2, an ages ago game. I adore it, though. Oh man, Durge, too. So badass. Young Obi or old Obi? Actually, scratch that, both are so awesome.

      5. Oh, alright. I never had the chance to play the second KOTOR, I played the first one and it was amazing! Haha, I miss those days…

        Right, I was going for Obi in general. He’s just too cool man!!

      6. It’s so worth it. Lots of crazy shit going on, but what else do you expect?
        He is a pretty cool dude. Always so level-headed. The scum and villainy quote is my all-time favourite from the series, including EU.

      My absolute-all-time-no-questions-asked favourite games ever are the Elder Scrolls series. I started out with Morrowind – but, being 10 when I played it, had a hard time getting through the whole thing. With Oblivion and Skyrim, they just keep getting better. You?

      1. Honestly, I loved Skyrim, but I’d never played an ES game before that. At least now I’ve seen the light. Aside from that I play a lot of Minecraft and Portal, and some friends and I are kinda-sorta working on making games too. What do you think about the Elder Scrolls MMO?

      2. Oblivion is worth a shot, though the engine and graphics are really nothing compared to Skyrim. Morrowind is an excellent game – probably the best of the most recent three, story-wise – but really hard to play due to it being released in 2003.

        Portal. So good. I hate logic though, so I barely made it partway through the second – without even playing the first.

        I haven’t really researched it that much, being that I rely on my coworker for updates, but I have hope. But I’ve been a fan of TES for so long that I’m scared they’ll screw it up, since Tod Howard isn’t making it. Alas, my coworker said the team who is making it is trying to get as much input from the main TES team so they get the lore right. I have hope.

      3. Historically, MMOs have a tendency to disappoint fans, and some people say releasing an MMO means the studio is running out of ideas. That being said, I’m praying I can finish writing my book before it comes out, because otherwise that’s at LEAST a three month delay.

      4. This is true. I’ve seen so many people bitch about the Old Republic now, even though they praised it when it came out, and I can still find no faults. But it isn’t the main TES team doing the MMO, and I heard from this coworker that Tod Howard is going to stick with what he does best. So this is just a branching opportunity, I think. God knows they have a shit ton of success with their previous games.

        But that’s true. Write quickly! You aren’t going to get anything done once it’s out.
